I knew that once I'd give birth I wouldn't magically go back to my previous belly size - that's just nonsense and wishful thinking! But I did know that I can do things that'll help get my waist size back a little faster than normal... So you bet your ass I did whatever I could to do so!
I've been athletic all of my life, from elementary school through college. In addition to that, I've always been in the gym the last seven years! So, you can imagine that my stomach would be on my mind from the beginning of pregnancy to the end. I'm not going to lie, I was worried and stressed! I was praying I wouldn't get stretch marks, but I did. I got tons of them! But I was absolutely shocked at how quickly they faded after giving birth! They're still there, don't get me wrong - they're just a white/pale pink color and it doesn't look bad. If I can deal with it, anyone can! LOL! Anyway... I was worried I'd have an abnormal looking stomach (what's abnormal to me may not be abnormal to you) and feel so discouraged after birth... But honestly, I'm so happy with how things are going! Alhamdulillah!
I'm exactly two weeks postpartum to date and I am so satisfied was the way my belly looks right now! I'm shocked that I'm even saying this! But my belly & uterus is shrinking a lot faster than I thought it would and I truly believe its from everything I've been using! I think I'm only three inches away from my pre-pregnancy belly size. So, I wanted to share with you all what I've been using to help you on your postpartum belly journey! You won't regret it!!!
PRODUCTS FOR THE WIN!
Once I got home from the hospital, I started wearing all of these things in order:
Everything will be linked at the bottom of this post!
1. Postpartum Disposable Underwear
These worked wonderfully for two reasons! One, they're great with protection! I never felt like I was going to bleed through them when I had the heavier bleeding post birth. They're super comfortable and don't make you feel like a grandma in adult diapers! Two, they have great elasticity to them! They make you feel sucked in a little bit all by themselves, so I really liked the fit, especially in my pelvic region! I highly recommend these over wearing regular underwear with pads for the first week or two after delivery!
2. Postpartum Compression Underwear
The second layer I would wear was the postpartum compression underwear over the disposable underwear just for extra protection and because I didn't want to look at myself basically wearing adult diapers! LOL. I absolutely LOVE the postpartum underwear I bought!!! They're high waisted and compress your pelvic area which helps so much with your lower belly "pouch". You'll notice after birth that the part of your belly that still looks pregnant is the lowest part, so this helps compress it in more and makes you feel less pregnant after pregnancy! I highly recommend these undies!! They're super comfy and really affordable for a pack of five!
3. Postpartum Belly Wrap
I bought two different belly wraps: the famous Belly Bandit for $50 and a random one I found on Amazon that was half the price. I used the Belly Bandit in size medium for the first week and I really love it (it didn't fit until a few days after delivery)! It's comfortable, easy to use, and does exactly what it's supposed to do! The only thing I would say is that if you have a longer torso like I do, it may not get every inch of your abdomen. So, I decided to try another wrap that could cover more ground!
The 3 in 1 postpartum wrap (one size fits all) I bought for only $23 works really really well! I love it because it covers each section of your torso. It has a pelvic belt, a waist belt, and a belly belt. The only thing is that it's not the most comfortable since there's so much going on... I find myself getting a little too uncomfortable and wanting to take it off to breathe a bit!! And another downside is that it takes longer to put on since there are three parts to it, which can be annoying. I sometimes just wear my Belly Bandit because it's quicker and more convenient! So I recommend both of these products, it just depends on which one sounds right for you.
4. Supportive High-Waisted Leggings
Lastly, on most days, I'd also wear some good, supportive leggings! I wanted as much compression as possible without feeling suffocated, lol! Honestly, I bought postpartum compression leggings in a size medium like a dumbass, so I couldn't use them! There's NO WAY I'd be able to fit in them! So I'm going to exchange them for a large... They have great reviews, so I'll link them anyway! But until they come in, I've been wearing some high-waisted leggings that are tighter at the belly to help keep everything in place as well. It's like the cherry on top!
